Tomorrow Never Knows-The Beatles art print by Malleus

From Malleus:

There’s a new Beatles museum in Hamburg, celebrating the Beatles formative days on the Reeperbahn. It’s called the Beatlemania Museum.
It has five floors, 1300 square meters of Beatles stuff, a yellow submarine… it’s a huge tourist attraction, right on the Reeperbahn near where Flatstock Europe is located.
They have exhibition space, and they’ll host a show of Beatles-themed art prints before, during, and after Flatstock.
The show begins on September 24th, with an opening event at 7:00 PM. Thereafter, it will be open from 10-10 and is free to anyone with a Reeperbahn Festival pass.
We’ll be a part of the event and we’ve create an art print, as a visual interpretation of one of our favorite Beatles song: “Tomorrow never knows”, from the album “Revolver“.

The poster is a 6 colour handmade silkscreen on heavy cardboard and it’s a big size one: cm 60 x 90 (23 x 35 inches).
Run is 100.
It’s obviously inspired by the lyrics of the Beatles song and from the Timothy Leary words “Turn off Your mind, relax and float down stream”.
There are 4 “acid beetles”, like blotters, on the tongue and hand of the woman coming out from the third eye that is like a pool of ink.
Eye is linked to the sky descending from the brain on top.
At the bottom of the poster there’s the infinite symbol, like a loop “to the end of the beginning”, like the song itself, an incredible drone song of the ‘66.

The poster will be on sale at the Beatlemania Museum in Hamburg, during our european tour (Holland, Belgium and Germany – dates will be announced soon) and 20 copies will be for sale in our webstore from the 09.09.09.

THE JESUS LIZARD poster by Malleus

From Malleus:

On the 21st September Jesus Lizard will play in Roma, Italy and we’ve realized a poster for their show.
We’ve thought about the Basiliscus basiliscus, the reptile able to run on water and we’ve imagined a “fairy lizard” looking herself “sleeping” in a pond. She has a bunch of mysterious keys in one hand and a magic wand in the other one.
Moreover, it’s a homage to Ophelia, the character in the play Hamlet by Shakespeare. Well, it’s quite clear, I guess :-)

The poster size is cm 50 x 70 (19 x 27 inches) and it’s on heavy white paper.
It’s a 4 colours handmade silkscreen, as You’ll see in the video below.
We’ve used lots of metallic inks on this one.
The run is 165 pieces.
The poster will be on sale at the gig in Roma and then, after the show on our webstore.
We’ll have it at Flatstock Europe in Hamburg too.

By the way, we’ll announce all the dates of the upcoming european tour very soon
We’re also waiting for the final confirmation of our Californian appearence.
Our friend Chuck Sperry has worked hard to make it happens, just wait a few days and we’ll let You know.
Hope to make it to Los Angeles too and we’re also thinking about coming with Ufomammut. Never knows…
Well, for now, enjoy this new poster!

New Malleus art print Watching You

From Malleus:

This poster was originally realized for a carnival party, so we imagined the cow of the famous cover of Pink Floyd’s “Atom Heart Mother” masked as Gene Simmons of Kiss.
We’ve always loved this image, so we decided to realize it in a large size as a handmade silkscreen.First of all for hanging it in our living rooms… ahaha

It’s a 7 colours print of about 70 x 70 cm (that is, if I’m not wrong, 27 x 27 inches) on heavy paper.
We’ve used a light blue metallic ink, a deep green, a prismatic gold/pink for the shadow on the cow and a metallic black.
Well, apart from red, brown and green.
We’ve recorded all the printing process and You can see all in the video below.
It’s been fun, we usually print on smaller sizes, so we had to change some of our “printing habits”.
We’re also working with new inks, so the colours are more vivid and metallic comes out of the paper.
Anyway, we’ve numbered 95 pieces and we’ll have them with us during our tour in Europe (from the mid of september).
Only 20 copies will be available from the 9th of september (what a wonderful date: 9/9/9) on our webstore

Please get to know my newest sponsor Malleus Rock Art Lab of Italy

I am more than pleased to introduce you to my newest sponsor, Malleus. A huge favorite within the collector community and artist community alike. Please stop by their web site and get ready to have your mind blown http://malleusdelic.com/

Malleus is an artistic collective devoted to rock music and to its historical image inventory, born in Italy at the beginning of the new century. Music and drawing are the main coordinates of a world where the trio takes its first steps, realizing record covers, fanzines and underground magazines' illustrations, images and logos for the web and also concert posters.

Malleus is an omnivore creature. The iconography at the base of their work originates from a vast scenery including figurative arts, in particular Expressionism and Symbolism, Art Nouveau and Surrealism, Pop Art and Psychedelic Art, and also comics, photography, cinema and literature. All these ingredients blend in with the main element of their poetics; that is the female form, the primordial goddess, from whom everything comes.

Even in its own small way, Malleus represents an anachronistic and non-logical exception, in a country that seems to have put aside child dreams, creativity and cultural independence which are suffocated by a media subculture that infects every stratum of society from above.

At the end of 2002, the trio of Malleus, printing their first handmade silkscreen, take the critical step towards a walk that will make them known as one of the most remarkable realities in the Poster Art scene of today. Through the handprinted silkscreen, a simple gigposter turns into something different and particular. Every copy is unrepeatable, a pop piece made through real physical effort, on the precious papers of Italian tradition. Its layers of colours pulsate and flutter in the light like organic matter.

At the end of 2008 Malleus realized "The Hammer of God", a book displaying the more than 150 silkscreen posters realized by the art collective for the most diverse artists and bands in the first 5 years of activity. The Hammer of God" is commented by artists, collectors and friends including Paul Grushkin and Dennis King (The Art of Rock and the Art of Modern Rock), Firehouse, David Tibet (Current 93), Jermaine Rogers, Alan Forbes, Justine Hampton, Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls), Al Cisneros (Om), Brant Bjork, and many more.

Malleus has been on tour in the USA promoting the book at the end of 2008, with shows in Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Denver.

Several Malleus' artworks have been displayed in various collective and individual art shows, and have been included in "Art of Modern Rock", the gig poster gospel by Paul Grushkin and Dennis King, in “Art of Modern Rock: Mini #1 A-Z” and “Art of Modern Rock: Mini #2 Poster Girls” by Dennis king, in "Swag posters" by Judith Salavetz and in "A fistful of Rock'n'Roll" by Sal Canzonieri.
