Todd Slater Poster for The Dead Weather show in Seattle.

Buddy of mine finally got around to sending me pics of The Dead Weather poster from Thursday nights show in Seattle. Done by Todd Slater, surprised to see him doing one for them. Measures about 14 3/4 X 21 1/2.

Looks to have metallic inks. Slater must have been up all night doing this one or at least spent all night on Goggle images.

Thanks again to the other Todd (not the artist) for sending the picture over.

3 New Todd Slater posters on Sale Today

The Disco Biscuits wanted to reprint the last poster I did for them with a different color scheme for another show. They're are very few of these prints available.

Ghostland Observatory is a 2 color silkscreen in a signed and numbered edition of only 100 copies. The green in the print also glows in the dark. Prince is an influence of the band (and Todd) and Todd had this image in mind for them for awhile. Todd felt like the androgyny associated with Prince related to the frontman in Ghostland. The print marks the third appearance of Prince in his work and it will not be the last. There will also be a small variant edition of this print (without the text) for sale on Friday.

The Flight of the Conchords was sold at the show in Minneapolis. The print is a 3 color silkscreen and is a signed and numbered edition of 250 (Todd only has 50 copies to sell).

All three prints will be $30 plus shipping

Sale time is 3pm EDT at Toddslater.net

Todd Slater on sale info for 5 new posters

Scroll down for pics of 3 of the new posters.

Here is the update from Todd

This Thursday, May 7, at 2PM CST 5 new prints will go up for sale. You can view the images and the dimensions on my site and on gigposters. All prints are $30 with the exception of Tallest Man on Earth ($25). Variants for Mogwai and Kings of Leon will go up on Thursday as well. Here are the specs:

Ben Harper & Relentless 7 - This print was done for Ben's ACL show and was commissioned by my good friend Mark Pedini who works for PBS. Ben Harper's new band (has yet to release album) is a departure from his other work and is a little louder than what BH normally plays. The idea for the snake with the white tongue came from the title of his new album: White Lies, Dark Times. The style came from pixel posters and arcade console panels...that's the feeling I wanted for this. I only have 50 of these prints to sell so I expect them to go pretty quickly.

Death Cab For Cutie - The image is inspired by DCFC song, a Diamond and a Tether and is a metaphor for a doomed relationship. In this case the diamond and tether would resemble a ball and chain.

Mogwai - Awhile back Vanity Fair (yes, I read that mag) ran a series of photos with women in black veils (most likely for a funeral) that I really liked. I thought that printing a veil as a separate transparent layer could make an interesting start to a graphic. Here's the pic that inspired the print. I wanted the image to carry some of the weight that Mogwai's music has.

Kings of Leon - An interview I read for KOL said that their newest single, Sex on Fire is about people who have sex with each other despite hating each other and the image was built from that idea. My friend John Anderson thought the image represented a kind of teenage, animal type lust -which is also very fitting. I have to also thank Rob Jones for giving me the idea for this image.

Tallest Man on Earth - This image is inspired by folk art. I was going for a patchwork look, so the illustration is made up of triangles. TMOE has gotten alot of Bob Dylan comparisons and is worth checking out if you haven't heard him yet.

All five of these prints are in the 2009 sub. The first tubes will be shipped out this week. If you haven't paid yours off yet now is the time. There's 10 prints in this first tube and you can see a running count of what's in the 2009 sub on my site here.

Look for upcoming prints for: Flight of the Conchords, An official LOST print for ABC, Ghostland Observatory, David Byrne, Gene Ween, NIN, Jane's Addiction and...

Wow Todd has really killed it with these three new posters. The Mogwai I think is by far my favorite and a really good band. Nice job Todd. On sale details to follow.

New Todd Slater posters Man in Black, Modest Mouse, Morrissey & Black Keys on sale details

On Paper

On Wood

From Todd Slater

On Friday, April 3, at 2pm CST my Man in Black art print will go on sale. You can see the image here. It's an edition of 100, signed and numbered and will be $50. Alot of people don't know how religious Johnny was, and I thought the crosses made for a very interesting paradox in the print. The print also contains a small tribute to June as well - see if you can spot it. In addition, there is a signed and numbered edition of 30 printed on wood. These look especially amazing and will obviously have to be shipped flat. The price is $150 for the wood edition.

On Thursday, April 2, at 2pm CST three new posters will go on sale for Modest Mouse, Morrissey and The Black Keys. These new posters are editions of 200, signed and numbered, priced at $30 a print.

www.toddslater.net

Here's a few notes about the new prints:

The Morrissey print is an homage to an Ambassadeurs poster by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (view the original here). I have to once again thank my good friend Rob Jones who suggested referencing the artist.

Modest Mouse is a top 10 favorite band of mine and this print is inspired by their song, Steam Engenius. I wanted the illustration style to be modeled from some of Picasso's animal drawings. There's a really nice clear varnish layer of a gear pattern in this that doesn't show up too well in the web image.

I've been playing with the idea of using a domino (as a key element) in a Black Keys poster...I like the duality and simplicity of it in relation to the band. Sometimes a gut feeling is enough to build a poster on. There's also a clear varnish layer in this print that features a photo collage of a famous Burlesque dancer from the 40s and 50s.
